PROCEDURES UPON
ARRIVAL
Having several
years of
experience in
welcome
expatriates in
Netherlands, we
would like to
share with you
these tips upon
your arrival.
It can always
be
useful!!
Any foreigner
staying in The
Netherlands for
more than three
months must
perform a
number of
formalities, in
spite of any
visa
obligation.
After finding
suitable
accommodation,
these
procedures can
be started.
First of all
you must report
to the
Immigration
Desk at the
Town Hall of
your place of
residence.
At the same
time household
goods from
outside the
European
Community (EC)
as well as the
car or motor
must be cleared
through
customs.
Finally your
foreign
drivers
license must be
exchanged for a
Dutch one.
During your
stay in The
Netherlands you
should pay
attention to
the various
taxes.
As soon as
possible after
your arrival
NOVA must make
an appointment
with the front
office of the
IND
(Immigration
Desk) at the
Town Hall of
your place of
residence, on
your behalf, in
order to apply
for a residence
permit.
However, a
residence
permit is not
compulsory for
EC residents.
As various
service
providers and
authorities
require a
residence
permit, we
strongly advise
you to apply
for one.
ACCOMMODATION:
First of all,
suitable
accommodation
needs to be
found. With
regard to the
check in the
following
should be taken
into
account:
a complete and
detailed
Condition
Report
(including the
garden)
a complete and
checked
inventory list
(if
applicable)
name and
telephone
number of the
manager in case
of maintenance
complaints
instructions
for the
appliances on
the premises,
i.e. boiler,
washing-machine,
dryer, oven,
etcetera
The tenancy
agreement must
be signed and
the
subscriptions
to gas,
electricity,
water, cable
television and
telephone must
be applied for.
While residing
in The
Netherlands
various taxes
related to a
permanent
address must be
taken into
account, i.e.
the real-estate
tax pertaining
to the actual
use, garbage
collection,
Pollution Tax,
etcetera. In
order to avoid
problems or
even fines the
expat should
pay attention
to mail
containing an
"Accept-giro"
(pre-printed
giro payment
cheque). It
should never be
thrown out.
NOVA can inform
you whether you
or someone else
pays the
respective
bills.
BSN-NUMBER
Everyone in
the Netherlands
has a
Burger
Service
number
(BSN-nummer)
for tax
purposes, which
you can also
obtain at the
Town Hall.
This number is
a personal
number and is
necessary for
your employer
to pay your
salary and to
ensure that
contributions
for your
benefits are
properly
credited.
THE 30% TAX-
RULING
The 30% ruling
is a tax
facility for
employees who
have been
posted or
recruited form
outside the
Netherlands to
work in the
Netherlands for
a Dutch
employer and
who pay Dutch
wage taxes.
Incidentally,
under
circumstances
this could also
be a non- Dutch
company.
The effect of
the facility is
that your
employer can
pay you a
tax-free
allowance of up
to 30% of your
wage for so
called
extraterritorial
expenses, as a
result of which
the effective
rate of wage
tax is reduced.
To qualify for
this tax ruling
you have to
fulfil certain
conditions of
which your tax
advisor can
inform you.
CHILD
BENEFIT
kinderbijslag
If you are
living in the
Netherlands or
are employed
and pay Dutch
wage taxes,
then you are
entitled to
receive the
child benefit
or
kinderbijslag
for your
children. To
qualify for
this benefit
your children
need to be
registered with
the population
department
(municipality)
first. NOVA can
assist you with
the
application.
NOTE: With all
the
aforementioned
procedures a
difference is
made between
persons from
within and
outside the EC.
However, there
are countries
that have a
comparable
status to EC
countries, but
it differs per
procedure.
Besides, these
lists are
subject to
changes.
Therefore it is
important to
treat each case
on an
individual
basis.
Hope all these
information has
been the
utility for
your trip, for
further
assistance you
