is a leading
French
Engineering
Consultancy
Company
providing
services
In the sectors
of transport,
energy, water
and waste,
environment and
institutional
support.
This is a 180
km long road
project along
the
north-eastern
coast of Sri
Lanka, with 5
‘major’
bridges from
100 to 250
– m of
length.
The
(Chinese)
contractor,
which is in
charge of the
design, handed
out its
Preliminary
Design for
Bridges this
week.
Hence, we are
in an urgent
need of a
Bridge Engineer
who would
status on the
quality of the
document
And take the
decision of
either approve
it, reject it
or make
amendments.
After a first
lecture, the
last solution
is the most
likely to
happen.
The Bridge
Engineer would
thus be
mobilised for 4
or 6 weeks
(a compulsory
28 days for
decision, + 2
weeks to
initiate a
convenient
redesign or
improvement).
The work would
also consist in
giving them
some
assistance, and
giving the Sri
Lankan Road
Development
Authority (RDA,
our client)
A clear image
of their
ability to
perform this
design.
One of the
difficulties
could stand in
the calculation
of the
foundation:
for 3 of the 5
bridges, no
bedrock was
encountered, so
the pile
foundation
shall work by
friction.
For the bridge
superstructure,
the
Contractor\'s
choice went to
Pre-cast box
girders, which
is
controversial.
A first
assignment
would then
start asap
until the end
of
december.
An other
assignment
starting from
Juanuary 2009
will surely be
necessary.
More
assignments are
planned until
the end of
2010, to
supervise the
design and then
the
construction as
well.
Profil du
candidat
Civil
engineer
(bridges,
structural and
foundations),
minimum 15
years of
experience.
A first
experience in
Asia would be
prefered
